I know only basic java programming. i haven't really worked on AWT or Applets. Can anyone please tell me what are the prerequistes for Swings ? Is their any free, indepth tutorial available on internet ? can any one recommend a book for swings ? please ?

Hello! I recommend you it is from the Java Tutorial series. It is easy to understand and has some examples, you only need basic knowledge of Java.

hi i'm like you and i understand it's more easy to make SWT with some GUI builder. The Netpeans 5.5 GUI starting popular right now.

Always good to use editors if you are new to Swings to learn about the Layouts for positioning the components and for developing small applications in swing.Once you get into the right path download some IDE which is free like Netbeans and start developing big applications...And from me...Best wishes...

if you wish to learn swing, the absolute worst thing you can do is use a gui-builder.

the place to start is the swing tutorial (mentioned in earlier reply), then
post any problems in this forum.

the only thing you'll learn from a gui-builder is how to click a mouse.
