How to fade an image?

When a user prints from my application, I want to use one of my images as a watermark on the printed page.

To do this, I need to fade the image (i.e., make the colours less bold). Does anyone know how I can do this (Java 1.1)??

Any sample code would go down well!

You can use the free software called ImageJ

That should allow the effect with the smoothing algorithims

the following code from blueJ might be useful
