The most widely used open source libraries are JasperReports and JFreeReport. I'm not sure if there is a Java version of Crystal Reports.

there is an API which is opensource and freely available on net.

It is an iText API. you can get .jar file from net and just you have to do is to put it in the classpath. please give your mail address so that I can send the jar file to you.
