Password Circles

hey i was just wondering how to get the effect when someone types in there password, say to a jtextfield, and instead circles come up. Im doing a project for my sofware engineering class and my professor is real anal about stuff like that. so any help would be great.

Use a JPasswordField.

I may have wrote that wrong. I know of JPasswordField, i was wondering on how to repaint the textfield so that i dont get circles. I want something other than circles, say oh squares for arguments sake. I was just wondering if there were any easy code to do that or how to repaint the textfield to make that happen.

If you can represent it as a character, you can use setEchoChar.
The default value when using the Metal look&feel is the character with ASCII code 8226, better know as a bullet: •
