Hi All, Am almost finished my basic certification course and am looking at where to go next; Is JSP similer (in what you can achieve with it) to cgi, or are they not similer? I notice this site seems to use cgi (which I'm not too familier with either) - Basically, would you use both together because they do different things? Or would you use one or the other...? I am also a web designer, would JSP be the next logical choice for me to continue my study; or Java servlets, Beans or JDBC. It's hard to decide because my course is finished and doesn't offer any guidelines in this respect - and I don't know enough about any of them to decide... I guess I'll have to do all of them in the end anyway... Also servers, I have installed JSWDK - is this enough for running JSP and servlets? I briefly looked at other names and numbers of things but there are so many, and so many version numbers I just felt overwhelmed... Anyway thanks in advance for any pointers, advice, web-site URL's or free books you can help me with.. Joel
PS: I know there are probably FAQ's etc which answer my questions but yes, this mail is also a shameless attempt to get a free book on JSP and any advice would be greatly appreciated as well...

you should learn all those things cause jsp, beans, jdbc, and servlets cause they all tie together. I'd recommend Professional Java Server Programming for this. Its enough detailed to get you off your feet then you would probably wont to go more in depth with these with other books. CGI is used with perl most of the time with the syxtax and keyowrds are completely different. ------------------ I wish there was a button on my monitor to turn up the intellegince. Theres a button called 'brightness' but it doesn't work

You better begin with the servlets by owning the servlet programming by jason hunter it is a good book to start learning the servlet and latter on concentrate more on JDBC.For Jdbc Sun publication is thebest book.
