The relationship is: GenericServlet is an abstract class and HttpServlet is a concrete implementation of said class. BTW, the fully qualified names of those classes are: javax.servlet.GenericServlet and javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet The following tutorial awaits you with a smile : "Straight from The Horses' Mouth"
