as an approximate quote from the documentation:
the ServletContext interface defines a set of methods that a servlet uses to comunicate with its servlet container..
Also -
There is one ServletContext per "Web Application"
You should download the servlet API from java.sun.com to get complete discussion of the servlet classes.
