Can we have abstract methods? Sure, an abstract method allows you to specify an interface without dictating anything about its implementation. That's what abstract is good for.
Now what would the implementation of a variable be?
And while you're engaging your grey matter, ask yourself what this has to do with JSPs or servlets.
