relating cookies & sessions

till know i hav worked on lot of examples of sessions and cookies but only individually
i want to do session tracking with the help of cookies.
i.e i want to retrieve content pertaining to individual session
via cookies at the server end and store in the datatbase .
say i hav developed a shopping cart which consists of 2 items .
u can keep on adding any number of the 2 items to the cart.
then i have a view option button thru which i show the total number of items in the cart. and lastly i hav buy option to where i just display that the order for so and so items has been accepted and i invalidate the session.
now here with the help of cookies i want to send a cookie to every client who request for this shopping cart servlet and retrieve the shopping contents of all users .
