Hi, I have a question about a smtp example code. Do we have to have our own mail server to run a servlet that sends out mail through smtp? What do we need to run a servlet that will take parameters from a html page and send out mails through smtp client?

1) no, but you must have authentication parameters for accessing the SMTP server.....(userid,password).
These can be passed when doing the socket connection open.
2) get the JavaMail api.....also, Jason Hunter is the reknowned expert in this area......check the web search engines for his code.
