What are the differences between various JSP specifications (versions) -- How to select a particular version for a project (if we don't want to just select the latest but find out whether the other versions can fit in)...

It depends on the AppServer u use bcoz some servers support specific version of Jsp/Servlet's. It depends on the server version.
There r several versions
Jsp 0.92 (Initial version)
Jsp 1.0
Jsp 1.1
in these versions there r several changes in tags, enhancements and add ons to latest versions...so go thru each version in detail...specs of JSP0.92, JSP1.0, JSP1.1.
HTH...

I have used an implementation of the JSP 1.0 specification with success, but am moving to a 1.1 implementation to more fully take advantage of custom tags.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
