not sure if this is the right forum for this but i was wondering whether or not if anyone knew whether it was possible to make a forum in java. i am a novice java programmer and am looking for direction. any websites that directly take your hand through this process? any books? magazines? online tutorials? i'd like a similar format to this one. this is one of the coolest most informative sites out there.
i have search online and keep coming up close but no cigar.
will it jsut be easier to make one in ASP?
thanks so much in advanced. colin

There is an open source (I think?) one called "Jive". But I could never get it to run on my computer, and posting on their newsgroup didn't help me, so I gave up on it. Maybe the latest version has fixed a few bugs.

You can make a forum in Java by just storing each "post" in a db table (ie. name, date, topic, content, etc.). Then call them out using SQL and ResultSet.next()

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
