how to download apache server;i went to http://jakarta.apache.org/ page, in the Download option i click binaries opion,in the binaries page ,in the release build section i click Tomcat 3.2.3;it's giving me some parent directory and also some ZIP files;it's very confusing;in that wat should i download and after that how should i configure into my system. immediate reply will be appreciated. regards chaitu
Just for info, Tomcat isn't Apache. Apache's a stand-alone webserver, and so is Tomcat - they just have different specialties, so are often used together. As for your REAL question - someday I hope someone will come up with a less confusing scheme for making software available. If you want to get started quick, download http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-tomcat/release/v3.2.3/bin/jakarta-tomcat-3.2.3.zip . The other files in this directory are the same package in TAR form, some security verification files and some support files. The subdirectories contain additional components that as OS-specific. You may need those files as well, but read the docs. Hope that makes things a little clearer!
