can oracle and sql server be installed in win98 and run good? another:how connect them with jsp??? let they run together, how to do? what is the best group of jsp??? example: jsp+mysql+tomcat!!!and so on,but among of them ,what do u think is the best??? who can answer me?thanx!!!
Sure you can, the way I have it setup is a mySQL database (good & free), JRun developer (also free, but restricted number of connections, good for low-end apps, like yours I'd guess). For connecting it's probably easiest to use the jdbc-odbc bridge, although mySQL has it's own jdbc driver. Look on java.sun.com for info on the odbc bridge, with example code, mysql.com for the database, documentation and drivers.
I too run MySql 3.23 on both my Win98 Machine & my Win200 machine....easy to use, simple to set up & work like a charm. MySql also doesnt put much of a drain on the machine's memory......Oracle on the other hand is a nightmare.....I have it on a WinNT machine that came with 8ai & it runs fine....BUT.....I downloaded the new version of 8ai & 9i from Oracle & have tried more times than i care to count to install it on both Win98 & Win200. The real problem is set up & config, plus 8ai installs Java 1.2.2 on your machine & in your classpath.....really irrates the hell out of you when your running the new stuff. Ive tried & there is NO WAY of stopping it from being installed..........Do yourself & BIG favor & go to www.mysql.com , download it & use it. Oracles a great db but it just isnt worth the aggravation!
