This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
All you need is Tomcat. It is an open source Web Server software from Apache. There are others but this is very popular. This link will give you further info. http://www.webappcabaret.com/javachina/tomcathowto.htm You can use this to test JSP/Servlets and Javabeans( not to be confused with EJB's) Of course you can use notepad/wordpad and the JDK. Cheers

"Varsha" your name doesn't agree with the javaranch guidelines. please take a moment and re-register after reviewing the guidelines at http://www.javaranch.com/name.jsp thanks for your cooperation. - satya
It looks as if you have two usernames: "Varsha" and "varsha mhaskar" I guess that the problem was that you either hit the TAB key instead of the space bar when logging in one time, or forgot your password. Please try logging in as "varsha mhaskar" instead.
Hello Frank, I had signed up using the user name as varsha mhaskar 4-5 months back and I was using that account. After passing SCJP I did not log on to this site for couple of months. Then I tried logging on to this site but I failed to login using my username and password. so I thought that I have lost my account and I again signed up afresh using same user name.. varsha mhaskar. At that time it did not gave me any message that such account already exists. It cooly accepted the same user name . But when I was logged in I saw only my first name appearing in the browser. I had not used tab key by mistake. I had used space bar between my first name and last name.
