can any one tell me the new current java projetcs , which i can select for my semester project .

you can make some game like using java applet like
number game having jumbled numbers from 1-16, player have to adjust numbers in proper order.
you can make a chat client or a chat server using sockets.

Applets? Evil! You'll be recommending Swing next (spitting noises)
As you might guess, I'm not a GUI fan. HTML is a god-send.
I had a little while off and made a scoring app for our foos table, add/delete players, record scores, view results as a table or per person.
Alternatively: Footy-tipping, address books (always a favourite)
Other thoughts?

Lets compromise..
I would suggest a simple Chat Server or
a small Multi user game using applet (HTML perhaps)
on the front and the servlets behind the curtain.
So that you will cover some GUI, bit of Servlet API and ofcource, the sockets.
(and make your project appear as a comprehensive work).
