Using Servlets to imatate html frames

I have a site that uses jsp & servlets. I want to ability to "imatate frames". On some of my jsp pages, or servlet generated html pages, will be links. When I click on those links, I would like for my header and footer to stay but have the link open up in the same window. Also, once that link opens up, I would like any links in that page, to just replace the current page, also keeping the header and footer from the original page. I was using a java program that takes in a URL and reads it contents and from there you can write the info to a file or whatever. The problem lies when clicking on a link from the newly formed page.

Why do you say "imitate" frames? Why not use real frames, it is so much simpler. Just start with an all-HTML mockup of your desired frameset and substitute servlets.
