GUI client talk to servlet

I am trying to build an client/server application with swing app as client and servlet as server. I need some help on how to let swing app talk to my servlet residing in somewhere like http://www.servingpark.com/myapp/servlet/ServletServer. In brief, swing app will send xml to ServletServer. Then ServletServer will process the xml and send back response xml to GUI client. I think I should send serialized xml object as request attribute and in return my servlet sends back serialized xml object back to my GUI client. But I cannot transfer this idea into actual code. I do not want to use applet as GUI client, however. Many thanks in advance for you help.
