why do you want to upload using ftp? why use a servlet solution to do ftp? Let me say that I havent as yet seen a point to doing ftp with a servlet, just as it is very rare to see servlets being used for smtp - i think you will find that most people will point you in the direction of an alternative solution - for one thing, you would need a container that provides the support for ftp that the servlet would need. Since FTP is a very clearly defined process (it is not like a content management system but rather (if rather crudely) a system for transferring files to remote destinations. As a result, unless you are wanting to provide some kind of CMS system for web management that uses FTP, building the container would obviate the need for the servlet itself.
