Persistent connection

Howdy folks,
I am trying to utilize third party software for signing up members using a CD-ROM. This software is going to post the user info to my JSP or servlet. I have to change the parameter names (no problem) and then POST this info along with other, account specific info, to our credit card processing company. The credit card co. will return a value of true if the card is good or false and a reason why if the card is bad.
After I get this value, I convert it to a 1 if good or a 2 if bad, and then write this value in response to the original post from the sign up CD-ROM to let it continue with the sign up process.
My question is, how do I maintain the connection from the member signing up through the credit card process, and still be able to return the needed value to the member?
Any advice on how to approach it would be appreciated.
