if you like garlic, you MUST eat at the "Stinking Rose" restaurant. the street address is:
325 Columbus Avenue
phone: 415-781-7673
otherwise, there are plenty of restaurants in the area called "Fisherman's Warf"... just ask anyone there and they can tell you how to find it. it is along the water and the seafood is incredible.
there are some really good pubs in the Fisherman's Warf and Cannery areas as well.

And hey don't forget the Monterey bay area & the 17-mile drive. It's a beautiful place, around 90 miles from San Jose.

If you like vegetarian food, "Greens" in Fort Point and "Millenium" near the Opera House are absolutely amazing.
The Exploratorium is also very cool...a sort of science museum with all sorts of trippy experiments and interactive exhibits. It's sort of aimed at kids but anyone who likes science would enjoy it.

WAIT, NO Dont' GO! You are a month too EARLY. It is June 4-7 that you need to go to San Francisco. THAT is when the JavaOne conference will be. I am SURE that you don't want to miss that. (Well just because I can't go doesn't mean you all shouldn't go )

Personally I would stay away from Fisherman's wharf--too touristy but nothing really to see. A ferry to Alcatraz is supposed to be fantastic, although I've never been, and the ferry is always fun on the bay. Monterrey/Santa Cruz are great bets, too. And wine country is the best.

well, Fisherman's Warf was cool for me because i was there with "Fleet Week" when i was in the Navy... we had to wear our uniforms the first night and i didn't have to pay for a thing! it really felt good to see so much appreciation.
so, i can see how it might be a tourist trap any other time.

For an authentic Bay Area experience, be sure to catch one of the rolling blackouts too...

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. It was a tiny ad.
