I have a web app in tomcat and it starts no problem in tomcat 4.1.18 on windows without a problem. On linux, same tomcat, my webapp is SUPER SLOW. Does anyone know why this is? In fact sometimes I don't know if the page will even come up. It's particularly slow when I change a jsp page and then go to it (so it has to recompile)

Are you sure that the Tomcat on Linux is running using the same version of JVM? Some distributions of Linux default to using the open source "Kaffee" JVM which is known to be much slower than the Sun or IBM JVMs.
To find out, login as whichever user runs the server, and type
java -version

Yep, it's running the same version: 1.4.1.03. What else might it be?
