Hello!
please help me to find good examples or tutorials about HOW to use JAVA(servlets) with tn3270.
I have found Host Access Class and Bean libraries from IBM but I find them difficult to understand.
Please suggest me some other options.
Thank You!

Our project uses TN3270 with a commercial 3270 emulator from Attachmate. Are you using something like that? Attachmate has pretty good code samples and libraries. Maybe your vendor can help?

Well, could you be a little more specific on what you are wanting to do with java and tn3270.
We also use Metavante's Attatchmate/Extra tn3270 for our mainframe access where I work. But we have never had the need for any JAVA inferfacing with it. I will ask some people and see what I can find out for you.

From what I found out, there isn't much out there in terms of Java API's for tn3270. You could write your own if you understand the protocal well enough. It's similar to Telnet.
Most vendors that deal with tn3270 will provide some support for such interfacing. I know metavante provides an API called IDK.
There are also some programs out there called Screen Scrapes that will basically scrape the screen of a tn3270 emulator and return information back to a Java application. I have not seen these for free though. Attatchmate makes one.
Good luck.

Attachmate has an extensive suite of connectivity tools for screen scraping, emulation, direct CICS connect, etc. including a Java 3270 emulator for fat clients. We were able to put that right on a Swing panel. Some of their other tools are server only. If you have the budget, give them a ring. They'll smother you in options.
I'm curious why this was moved to servlets. Are you using TN3270 from a server or from a fat client?

Thank you very much for Your reply!
and I am very sory for not responding promtly. The reason is that I was out of the office(country) for few days.
I urgently need to develop an application that will work with a remote host via tn3270. This application will connect to HOST, specify LU name and simply get the screen (response). Then, the returned information will be parsed and cirtain fields will be displayed in GUI...
Once I learn how to establish a connection and learn how to recieve response from HOST. I will be able to create applets, servlets and JSP pages.
I have tried using IBM Personal Comunications JAVA Class Library. But it did not work for me and I was not able to figure out where the problem is. After running a very simple example (which comes with docs) I could see that the connection with HOST is established and LU name is authorised. But there is no response. The method that returns screen content returns me NULL. I tried using the same example and connect to simple telnet. And it worked very good. After spending 4-5 days on solving this problem I decieded to look for something else or even find how to create a connection to a remote tn3270 using pure JAVA and not other companies pre-developed APIs.
So far I was not able to come with any soluton and I was not able to find any tutorials on this topic and that is why I came to this forum to ask for help.
I do not have a budget to purchase another commercial product and I am not very good in telnet protocols. I am a simple web developer SCJP and SCWCD.
Thank you very much for you responses and I am hoping for your support.
