Functionality of HttpSessionActivateListener

Someone tell me the functionality of HttpSessionActivateListener. I only know about this interface that it works for distribute environment but not clearly understanding the functionality of it.

any class that implements this interface will get informed when a session is either created or destroyed (corres. method on it is called by container). it need not be only for distributed environment.

1 point i would like to draw attention to..
i think it is HttpSessionActivationListener and not ActivateListener..
Correct me if i am wrong..
