This week's book giveaway is in the General Computing forum. We're giving away four copies of Arduino in Action and have Martin Evans, Joshua Noble, and Jordan Hochenbaum on-line! See this thread for details.
We're going to be writing an article for our newsletter evaluating different JSP / Servlet hosts in hopes to make the process of choosing one a bit easier. The hardest thing is to figure out where to start! So -- here's my nice informal survey to help us get started: 1- Who do you use to host your Web Application? (include their URL please) 2- What do you feel are the most important quatlies of a hosting company? 3- What questions do you ask a hosting company before you decide if you'll use them or not? 4- What do you use your website for? Personal? Business? Academic? Other? 5- How "big" is your website? MB's and hits/month (about) 6- What do you LOVE about your hosting company? 7- What do you HATE about your hosting company? 8- Have you ever changed hosting companies? why? Thanks!!
1- Who do you use to host your Web Application? (include their URL please) mmaweb.net 2- What do you feel are the most important quatlies of a hosting company? Value for price. This includes such intangibles as what kind of support you get over just what features you can get. 3- What questions do you ask a hosting company before you decide if you'll use them or not? The usual around level of service, feature set, and to what degree I can muck around with the config of my own area. 4- What do you use your website for? Personal? Business? Academic? Other? Personal and business. 5- How "big" is your website? MB's and hits/month (about) All my sites are currently small-footprint/low-bandwidth/moderate-DB sites. 6- What do you LOVE about your hosting company? Responsive support. 7- What do you HATE about your hosting company? Don't hate anything. But the servers could be faster. 8- Have you ever changed hosting companies? why? Yes. Either poor support, or inability to obtain a private JVM for a reasonable price. bear [ October 29, 2003: Message edited by: Bear Bibeault ] [ October 29, 2003: Message edited by: Bear Bibeault ]
