When you forward a request, is the servlet container required to retain the
query string, just as it retains the parameters of a forwarded request.??

According to the JavaDocs on javax.servlet.RequestDispatcher, the forward method must forward either the exact request and response objects or wrappers for these objects. If you have Tomcat installed, those JavaDocs are on your system.
