unable to find servlet.jar

I have installed the j2se 1.4.2 but not finding the servlet.jar so i can compile my servlets. if any one can help me that will be great.

Hi Vasudeva,

Servlets are included in the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE). You can download it from here.

i have downloaded the same but i am not able to find the servlet.jar so not able to compile .. can you please tell me what am i missing

Have you just downloaded J2EE rather than J2SE?

If so, where are you looking for the Servlet JAR? What JAR files have you found? I would expect it to find it in the lib directory under the installation root.

I'm afraid I'm not using my own PC at the moment so I can't verify this in my installation.

If that's no help then maybe someone else can give you a pointer.

i have installed Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8 Update 1

J2SE 1.4.2

J2EE 1.4 SDK Samples Update

and did a global search on my c drive could not find one.

Different servlet containers will name the jar file differently. Tomcat uses servlet.jar, but others may name it differently. Either read the documentation for your servlet container, or start poking around inside the jar files until you find the right one.
