i am currently a junior at Kennesaw State University just north of Atlanta, Georgia. my majors are
  • Computer Science and
  • Mathematics
  • i think i am fortunate because the CS field is still doing well here, so i am not too concerned about getting a job when i graduate. i looked on atlantajobs.com last week and saw jobs for people with 2 years experience in Java and/or C++ that started around $60k.
i am working on getting my java certification from Sun just so i can have something else to put on my resume... i thought about getting my Redhat Linux cert as well, but it is pretty expensive. aside from my education, i am a US Navy Veteran with a secret clearance and strong electronics background. i think i am in a pretty good position, but i might be wrong.

I'm a senior at Cleveland State University here in Cleveland, Ohio. My major is computer science and hopefully I'll graduate a year from now. I already work full time in the IT industry. I lucked into a job with a consulting compnay that had a requirement at a client that didn't want to pay a lot so they were willing to take a chance on someone with no experience. Right now I do mostly web based applications development, alot of database stuff, ASP, Javascript and other misc stuff that people in the office need.
Hopefully in a few weeks when I pass the SCJP they can place me somewhere where I can do some java programming!!

Well I should probably post my stats as well:
- senior majoring in MIS/CS at UofArizona.
- graduating in Dec.
I've had two solid internships (one now). I did servlet programming last summer for Honeywell and this summer I'm doing database design (unrelated to Java). Just with these two internships, a year ago would have landed me a 50k starting offer easily.
But now I'm not sure I'll even get a job. UofA attracts a lot of recruiters with their strong MIS program, but I interviewed about 12 companies last semester and they all didn't take anyone.
So I'm really worried about graduating in Dec and just seeing if anyone else has any other plans besides going through their career services (which is basically the only thing i'm relying on).

I was an undergrad 2 months ago. Graduated CS/Physics from Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. I got 3 job offers smallest being at $57K. One offer came through a old college budy of mine who was working for the company at the time. One offer was from an on campus recruiting interview. The other was from a company that I was doing an internship with at the time.
I really didn't even look for a job that hard. My focus of study at school was C++. Our CS program is really C++ intensive, and I guess my knowledge of OOP impressed an interviewer so much, that he hired me to be a Java Developer. I didn't even know Java at the time.
I'm not saying that it should be this easy for everyone. I have some friends that are still looking for work after searching for more that 5 months. But if it was this easy for me, then it can't be that hard if you really know your stuff.

I am currently a 4th yr undergrad. I plan on graduating this May. The thing is I switched into Computer Science halfway through college from Nutrition (totally different classes)..so i have been playing catchup. I think I can make it though...will i be sane is another question.
Right now my future looks like it is heading towards government work. They offer great benefits and will pay for my masters in Software Engineering. Then after grad. school I might think about private industry. I know all my friends are private and are getting wined and dined left and right. It sounds nice but right now I am looking for stability so that I can start off strong.
That is my career plan right now...hope you enjoyed it. Nikki

I graduated a year ago with a CS degree, and then did some post graduate studies, and my Java 2 certification. I ended up with 3 offers..only one good one doing Java development with Visual age, and WebSphere. So far so good
