Applying for a job which required a polygraph test. No, I didn't get the job.

So then wouldn't the stupid thing you did actually be whatever you did that you either felt compelled to lie about on the polygraph examination, or that otherwise prevented you from getting the job?

Not really. I didn't do anything that I would normally be compelled to lie about. But when you go for a job with super security clearances you start to get paranoid. Most jobs don't care about the personal details of your life 5 years ago. So the stupid thing was thinking that I wouldn't mind giving all those details, which it turned out I did, so I never really made it through the test, I decided to stop. So I didn't get the job. Which was actually a good thing. I went to College instead.
PS - Sorry to hear about the marrage.

I've done two pretty stupid things.
One was while I was working for a company that hosts online casinos and sports pools. I got my first Project where I was the "technical lead" after about 2 years. All of a sudden I became the big shot running around bossing all the programmers on how to do things "the right way".
Day 7.. Database crash...
Seems I didn't check MY backup dump that ran every hour.. every single backup from the whole first week's bets were lost.
I stil remember the tar files... 207 files of size 0 (zero)
My boss told me.. "I don't know if I should shoot you or fire you"...
He didn't shoot me, thank god and I have NEVER EVER made the mistake of not checking my work ever again.
Stupidest thing I ever did REALLY helped me out in the long run.

Oh yeah, I also stuck my tongue to a pole in winter.. my cousins laughed at me and went to get their friends to show them how stupid I was. I was there for like 30 minutes.. I think I was 24 when it happenned. I tell you, I didn't beleive it would stick that fast.

My first job in IT.
My first presentation/demo to a large (30) group of people to show them my progress.
About 5 minutes before the meeting I accidently deleted all of the sample data I had entered into the database over the past 3 or 4 days.
Since then I've never forgotten to put in the WHERE clause in a SQL delete statement.

I've done so many stupid things, I have lost count
Here's one thing that stays in my mind, and pinches me everytime I remember it.
This was when I worked in Chicago. A pretty Indian girl had moved into my apartment complex, and after a chance meeting with her, we started talking about work and stuff, and then eventually, me being the preux chevalier, offered to show her around town, the local grocery stores, downtown, etc. Then in the evening, we decided to go to an Indian restaurant on Devon Ave.
We go to this place called Mysore Woodlands, and take a seat by the window. All very romantic, it was like a date for all practical purposes, and we loved the food. But then... When the waitress brought the check, and placed it in front of me, I happened to stare out of the window at something, at exactly the same moment. Seeing that I didn't take the check, she reached over, took it, and put her card in it. I didn't wish to make a scene there, by grabbing it back, so let it go... needless to say, I was pretty much sheepish the rest of the evening. A perfect disaster.

Whats so stupid about that? I like a woman who wants to pay some of the time. It shows confidence and i admire that alot.
Women that expect men to pay for them ALL the time can suck a fat one.
