Servlet listening for a file on the file system

Can I use a servlet to implement a listener.

Let say some one ftps a file into a directory I want my servlet to handle the file e.g. read the data and do something with it.

Is this possible and if so can some one post some sample code.

No. Servlets are not an appropriate technology choice for this.
