I live in the northwest US and you rarely see men wearing short pants when it is hot out(I sure don't). We will go topless though, thats ok. I think it is not limited to just here either. Sure there are exception. The mailmen and UPS guys sometimes wear shorts. Why is that?

Probably men are afraid that women wont be able to control themselves...

cause man don't get any attention from women by wearing that kind of cloths , however, women do get a lot of attention when they show their bodies.

I'm wearing shorts today. Women nearby seem to be able to control themselves. Perhaps I should visit the northwest.

Yeah Jim, You must be doing something wrong.
When I wear my short pants, women are following me and salivating at the same time. I am so scared that some of them will rape me. Thanks God that the summer is almost over.

LOL Jake. If they saw my legs it would probably blind them because my legs are so white.
A slight change of subject but they now know that because of UV radiation tanning is not healthy, especially if you live in australia or antactica.

Lets see:
1. Women are attracted to men who appear strong, powerful and able to care for a woman. This is a survival trait deeply buried in their subconcious. I helps insure that the young will survive to continue the species. Notice how women MELT over a man in a uniform or a power suit, they can't help it .
2. Men tend to have wimpy little white legs with knobby knees. This in NO way enhances a mans appearance of strength etc.
3. Men tend to want to appear attractive to women even if they are NOT in the market . . . ergo. . . .

Of course that is garbage. Men will work hard and sweat profusely while maintaining the right to keep their knobby legs covered by long pants.

I disagree. When my boyfriend wears short pants, he looks good enough to eat.

Ha ha! I know this is MD...
Practically, I wear shorts outside when it's hot. I live in South Florida (USA) where it's warm most of the year.
Most men wear shorts outside especially on the beach restaurants, bars and night clubs. (I live in Delray Beach.)
When the so-called winter comes, then we wear long pants (although with short-sleeve shirts) but tourists from the North wear shorts (it's 21 degrees F or less where they come from!).

Anybody ever consider wearing three-quarter? Halfway between shorts and long pants.

Cindy, what do you have against knobby legs? Actually knees are the most attractive part of men's legs. Of course, for some reason I am attracted by topless men more than by pantsless...

Thats because most men have more muscular upper bodies than legs.
Of course there are those rare exceptions . . . .

Hi
I wear shorts all the time, and, I bought my first pair of sandals the other month. I always though they were stupid so I stuck to my Nikes but once I bought a pair, I was hooked. They are soo darn comfortable and I feel free in them.
I'm also wearing my family Kilt for my wedding... how does that grab you girls?

P.S. I'm a bit shorter than most 5'8" but I've got solid telephone poles for legs. (Now if only I can figure out what the heck a situp is..)
:P

Being from the wonderful Northwest, I know that (for Western Washington at least) for the most part it just doesn't get hot. 85 out there is considered scorching and 90 degree days are newsworthy.
To a certain degree shorts are an unnecessary expense in the Seattle area. Now that I'm in Denver, I wear shorts all summer long. And as near as I can tell, none of the women care.
Just MNSHO.

I wear shorts all year. Within 5 minutes of getting hiome from work I change into shorts and a t-shirt, or if it's cold out (below freezing, I'll wear sweats).
John, I know what you mean about the sandals, I got some at the start of summer and now love them, of course instead of white, glow-in-the-dark feet, I've got white, glow-in-the-dark stripes on them .
I need to find one of these mythical IT jobs where you can show up in shorts and sandals.

Mythical?
Heheh.. in the last 5 years I've worked at 3 companies.
The first one the developers literally were the motliest crew I've evern seen. I showed up for my interview in a suit and felt ridiculous. One guy interviewing me actually asked "Do you plan on wearing that thing to work here?" I joked and said "Only if you cut your hair" (He had like a 3 foot long pony tail). After that, it was jeans / t-shirts / running shoes for 3 years.
My next job was at a bank, so that's a little diffrent. Tie, shirt, suit. Weekend / casual dress meant you didn't have your jacket on.
In my current company (one of Canada's largest printing and distribution company's) it's a common occurrance to see us in shorts, golf shirts and sandals.
It's great.

I'm a year-round shorts guy, which is unique because I live in Wisconsin. From April through October I can't wait to get home to ditch the Bugle Boys and put on some shorts. One of my favorite memories is from Christmas three or four years ago. My wife and I were at her parent's house in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (da' U.P., eh!)when it hit the mid-50's. Man, it felt good wearing shorts on Christmas!
My co-workers often discuss why women are allowed to wear shorts at work, while us guys can't. Then, when I play in the annual men's golf outing and see my co-workers in shorts, I see why!

This is not universal truth. Perhaps such an approach worked when a great part of a woman's surroundings was represented by tigers or some other nice animals. Later everything changed. My grandmother, for example, remembered that her mother-in-law was first disappointed about her: "She is so slim. How will she drag her husband home when he is drank?" I suppose that time best candidates in husbands seemed not-so-strong-and-powerful Also to believe that a men is your protection was very short-sighted. I bet, much more women were beaten by their husbands than by strangers - another argument to support "not-so-strong" hypothesis. What I am trying to say is that men attractiveness varied from culture to culture, but the most wise and universal approach would be not "most strong and powerful", but "less dangerous". We, woman, should realize, that with a man, a danger comes in our houses. It works even nowadays. Even if a man is highly educated and extremely nice, he still can have some dangerous hobby, like keeping poisonous snakes or something

What our subconcious is programmed to admire, and what our concious mind admires are two different things. Of course our concious mind is drawn towards many attributes of a man besides the basic survival stuff, and as you point out, our societies make different traits desirable.
I love my husband even if he DOES wear shorts all the time . And I am drawn towards a man with a good sense of humor, and a quick mind.
But none of that can eliminate the hardwiring that zillions of years of natural selection has built in.
Just like men tend to prefer women who fit the "reproduce and nuture" stereotype. In real life women with big breasts and curvy hips are NOT really better at reproducing, but men sub-conciously are still drawn toward that image. Of course that does not mean that they do not allow their concious mind to admire a sense of humor and a quick mind in a woman. But somehow when looking at a woman they still can't seem to keep their eyes above neck level. . . . .

Hi! I'm a guy who wears shorts all the time, especially in summer. My wife loves my tanned legs, and they don't look like chicken legs. I'v got muscular legs, and love to show them off. Oh, I'm from Ohio, and it has to drop below 50 degrees before I'll put pants on!
