What I am trying to do here is replacing the html form by a pdf form so that the data entered by a user can be post to a servlet that treats this data. Is this even possible?

Some people told me to use i-text but they were not sure if it would do the trick... I read the faq and the apis of itext and I am very sceptical...

Your help is greatly appreciated!

If a PDF can perform an HTTP Post, which I believe it can, than it can post to a servlet. How to deal with the return value, I don't know.

Thanks for your reply. But how can I set up the pdf form to post its data? Do I need specific Adobe software to do so?

Thanks!

Honestly, I'm not sure. This is really more of a client issue than a servlet one. You could try the General Computing forum on this site but I suspect you would get faster results by googing or going to Adobe's site.

Adobe PDF Reference v 1.6 - a 8.9MB pdf document has a section on forms - it looks very detailed at the document structure level. The Apache FOP toolkit for PDF does not seem to address forms so generation from a servlet seems unlikely.
I think you will need a commercial Adobe product to set up forms.
