This week's book giveaway is in the OCMJEA forum. We're giving away four copies of OCM Java EE 6 Enterprise Architect Exam Guide and have Paul Allen & Joseph Bambara on-line! See this thread for details.
Too many threads about Filters are floating around. Can we have 1 thread which explains the basic use and with an example, where a request/response is modified. I know several books would list that, but considering the fact that the owner of the thread would come here only after going through all that.
Not sure if such a thread already exists. If not... then why not this one. Whenever there is a question on Filters, we could direct them to this one.

Hi Bear and Ragesh ThankU Could you please give me an example? thx in advance Rgds Sree
One way I use filters is for authentication. When an internal controller of the web app is requested, a filter checks to make sure that an authentication token is in the session. if so, the request is allowed to proceeed normally. Otherwise, the filter forwards to the login mechanism.
