A web application is a unit of deployment. These are all the files in a war (web application archive) file. A website is a collection of files that you see when you type in a URL. A website may contain multiple web applications. For example, on this site, saloon.javaranch.com may be a different web application than the bunkhouse. But they are both part of the JavaRanch website.

Website has the deployed data and webapplication is the one which will updates the data as time goes on.

I think this will be more clear with these examples

1.website : any data related to greetingcards,

2.Webapplication : data related to live updates like.live cricket matches ,tennis and weather reports..etc

any more suggestions???

Website is a way to put web applications to use
If you have a website (say abc.com) and (web) applications such as mail, data storage, online job help etc. then you can access them as abc.com/mail , abc.com/jobs , abc.com/store.
I agree. Here's the link: http://aspose.com/file-tools
