I found out today from my mother that my little sister was called a "Terrorist" walking through the mall the other day.
I am in total shock, disgust and sadness. I dont konw what to think or do. I feel a great sense of sadness that this would happen in my country (Canada). I also feel betrayed in a sense.
I love Canada with all my heart, and I feel I am 100% canadian. I would die for my country for any reason needed, and am so thankful for my freedom and liberty.
I feel bad for my sister to have to hear that from a stranger who doesnt even know her. Ironicly she isnt even Arab but rather East-Indian. Ragrdless that doesnt matter.
Sorry I just needed somewhere to vent my sadness
Regards
Faisal

Hey, sorry. Unfortunately, idiots abound. Just as the Muslim religion isn't truly represnted by these terrorists, so I believe, Canadians, Americans, etc. shouldn't be judged based on the hateful actions of a few. The truth is their is hatred everywhere. Thankfully, the good guys outweigh the bad
Truly sorry about how your sister was treated, but don't harbour hatred in your heart for the incident. The key is to "kill them with kindness". Take your anger, your frustration, and go out and help someone less fortunate. You will see that you will feel better instantly and the bad guys will lose. They want us all to play their game of hatred...don't let it spread. Spread love instead. Peace out.
With Respect,
Matt

I feel sorry for your sister, Faisal... it can be quite demoralizing; but take heart - there still are nice people out there.
That makes me wonder, wouldn't it be better for us minorities to try and blend in better with the general crowd, atleast until all these tensions get resolved? I mean we tend to get noticed easily, either by the garments we wear, or the headgear, or even the scarf worn by women... perhaps we can sacrifice such outward displays of allegiance to our religious beliefs, and try to be more discreet?

Tony,
I dont blame you for being angry, actually YOU SHOULD be angry!!
I think its time for some drastic changes. I dont know about you but its time to put a side the nice guy routine and get nasty. Muslims all over need to fight this and educate people. Along with the world!
Those terrorist didnt only highjack planes but also "Islam" and man have they messed things up. I think we as a collective global community are sitting on a bubble, and its about to burst.
I dont care what the west has done to people in the middle east. Killing people is wrong. Who ever, whenever, whatever it maybe.
I dont like to see people die, and I am sure people in the middle east dont either. But we have all these idiots running countries like Afghanistan. Its so oppresive and awful what they put their people through. Who the hell wants to live like that. The way I see it is we need to spread the west out east.
Maybe I feel that way because I am a so called "Westernized" person, But I think its the only way to live and far superiour to anything else out there. Those crazy irrational idiots who think we live in the stone ages need to wake up and smell the coffee. I am sick and tired of being sterotyped cause of my skin color. Cause really I fit none of the sterotypes that exist. I dont even have any brown friends.
Here is a story. My cousin is a internation student from India. Everynow and then my cousin makes stupid comments on how I am too Canadian..whatever that means...he even says that to my sister.
Thats racisim for me...And if you dont like the culture or surroundings you are in..THEN TAKE the next flight home!!! And dont use my Country for its education, freedom, openspace, fresh air, good looking girls( ), etc etc...

I think I am getting off topic. anyway...I think we need to get rid of these oppresive people in power and get some law and order into those countries. Religion isnt always a good thing. People can use it to control others. There is mass brain washing going on, and we need to stop it ASAP... Whatever means nessesary
Binladen isnt even a Muslim..He is a fake, and using it to motivate people to do his dirty work...Its alot easier to say kill for God, than to say kill for me.

Nanhesru ,
I have never been one to thrown my culture in anyones face. Actually I am totally opposite from my culture as can be by choice.
Religion is a personal thing, and when you live in a Western culture you to respect the people around you. I think by immigrating to the US or Canada you have to give up some of your previous culture and accept parts of the new. Not everyone will agree with it, but here in calgary all the Indian people live in one area, Chinese live on another, etc etc...I look at that and ask why? Is it cuase you want to be close to your culture? Thats fine but then why did you come to another country for that?
I dont know if that makes much sense..but its your duty to diversify, and meet people of all cultures, and to learn from them and to educate them also. People want to learn, and know. But if one neighbourhood is all blacks, whites, browns etc...Then how will people get the chance to get to know you...
Its Silent segragation, and its WRONG!!! I live in a mixed area and I am proud to be living here...Atleast people can get to know me and it doesnt look like im trying to hide something.
I am sure some people might have issues with what I said, but the only way to combat racisim is through experiences with one another...

Faisal:
You have just reminded me of when I was a graduate student at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and I was living in the Stage XII dormitory.
This dorm (Stage XII) was for only two kinds of students: a)graduate students and b) International students even if they were not grad students.
So you can imagine the diversity that I lived through that time.
Your post was so candid and accurate that I will respond to it in parts.
"And if you don't like the culture or surroundings you are in..THEN TAKE the next flight home!!! And don't use my Country for its education, freedom, openspace, fresh air, good looking girls..."
I will never forget my encounter (among many other encounters that I had then as expected) with a young (non-grad) student from Saudi Arabia.
All his energy went into trying to nail American good looking girls of which there were plenty around.
He could not score. I say it had to do with his rotten personality, attitude and arrogance. He wasn't too good looking but neither was I.
In those days, I was an amateur photographer with pretty good camera equipment and I walked around campus with my camera. That would attract the attention and conversation of other students, some of them the above mentioned good looking girls. I had no problem in meeting these type of women because I *did* something they found interesting (plus I played the guitar well then).
This Saudi knew nothing, he had no talent, no looks, no conversational skills. But instead he had a LOT OF MONEY.
Anyway, one day in the middle of the semester one morning I opened my door to go to the showers and I see a limo a driver carting this guy's belongings away with the Saudi walking behind him. He was leaving campus.
That evening I asked his roommate (he was from Iran) what happened and he told me that the Saudi guy got frustrated because he could not nail a single American woman and since that was the only reason he came to America, he was going back to Saudi Arabia.
Now to the punch line: The roommate told me that before he left, the Saudi guy said some ominous words: "The Americans will pay for this. If I can't have sex with American women then nobody else will".
To which I answered "Who does this guy think he is, Royalty?"
It turned out, according to his roommate, that yes, he had some kind of connection to Saudi royalty and that in his country he could have any woman he wanted (and did) but his main objective in life was to have sex with a young American blonde.
I don't remember his name but I'm sure it wasn't Osama

"My cousin is a international student from India. Everynow and then my cousin makes stupid comments on how I am too Canadian..whatever that means...he even says that to my sister."
When oh when are people going to GET IT and discover that we are all Earthlings?
What's the difference of being "too" Canadian, "too Indian" too "American".
We should make a distinction between who's civilized and who's a barbarian. That would be good.

Tony,
Thats a interesting story, and you are so right about the fact we are all earthlings, and it shouldnt matter what we maybe.
I feel at times the terrorist achomplished more than they targeted for. Not only did they scar Islam(If there are attacks on the middle east then other muslims maybe compelled to hate the West) but they might have or will turn some Country Men against Country Men, in the sense of having different beleifs(Hate crimes specificly).
I for one dont care about religion this has nothing to do with it. Its a matter of a few people wanting to control others and they use religion as a means to do so...Brainwashing people seems to be fairly easy dosent it. Radical muslims may clam I am a brain washed person my self beleiving so strongly in the west in all its glory and might. But atleast we are not barbarians.

ESPECIALLY when they use a 'religion' to do so. It is much harder to brain wash a person with material non-facts, because if the person can THINK AT ALL, they may be able to discern the lies presented to them.
But with the 'afterlife' involved, they have a better chance because the decision of the target of brainwashing is no longer dependent on verifiable facts but instead upon imaginary stuff for which there IS NOT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST PROOF of existence.
I have an original joke on that subject that I may have already posted in this forum:

You are going to like this then :-) (Original humor, BTW...)
It turned out that, of course, the 67 or 70 virgins lure was just that, a
lure by Satan to confuse the idiot terrorists.
So...
When they finally arrived in the lowest plane of Na'ar, they asked Satan
(who had not properly identified himself yet; so anxious were the
terrorists to start screwing young virgins!):
"Where are the young 70 virgins!? We want to START F___ NOW!!!???"
Satan said: "Ho Ho Ho! Another one that bought my BIG scam! YES!!
"YOU, gentlemen (using the term VERY lightly), are actually in HELL!! And
you shall burn forever!"
"What?!" said the terrorists. "You mean no 70 virgin women for us?"
To which Satan replied: "Not quite but almost. NO, no young virgins for you. But
you WILL have 70 women to accompany you through your ETERNAL DAMNATION: 70
MOTHER IN LAWs!!! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!"... said Satan.

You're right, Faisal. I always tell this to my colleagues/friends coming from India. A couple other suggestions I usually give out are:
- When at a public place, try to be relaxed and blend into the atmosphere - don't huddle in groups and speak your native language out loud - that would naturally cause stares, and perhaps feelings of distrust.
-Make eye-contact, smile, and perhaps even greet people you meet, even perfect strangers. When I first came to the US, I was puzzled at total strangers affably smiling and asking me 'How are you doing?'. It took me some time to cultivate that habit myself.
Little things like this can help put the local folks at ease. When we can win their confidence, life would be much better for us... and in times such as these, they would be assured that we are as trustworthy as their own people.

Sometimes I feel some of the racisim comes from immigrants who come to different countries. Not all but some.
People may say its wrong to assimulate but I disagree. The purpose of leaving your previous home to find a new home in the US, Canada, UK, etc is to live the new life if I can call it that. So you have to be open to and willing to accept all that comes along with it.
There is a city in Britan called "Bradford"? Its where there is a huge East Indian / Sihk community. there were riots there also. Correct me if I am wrong. either way, I so think that is wrong and just silent segragation. Its racisim on part of the immigrants who have come to that area. This might sounds bad, but I am so so against that kind of mentality and its time to put a stop to it. Why does your next door neighbour have to be the same religion as you? Or same colored skin? Do you think thats backward thinking? It only breeds ignorance, not only for the people who might not get to know you or your culture, but for the person doing it themselves cause they in turn are saying I dont want to get to know other cultures / types of people.
Sorry just a touchy subject for me..
