I have a servlet, it calls a method in a third party API. This method returns a XML document. Browser connection gets timed out Since the xml doc is voluminous. Is there any way to get this doc fom the API

Thanks & regards, Srini

The usual approach when a servlet has to get data with a process that takes a long time, is to start a separate Thread to control that process and return a message to the client saying the process has been started.

You may want to check this as well...

Servlets spun threads for database access may not be supported in future J2EE versions.
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
