problem updating the values

Hi Everbody

I have created three tables

1)one for inserting data

2) selecting the data and inserting the data in a backup table (when any updation is made)

3)updating the data into main table

I have written all the three queries but i do know how to implement in logic in servlets

if(insertStatus==0)
{
    resultset=saveIndexReturnStatus.executeQuery(saveIndexReturnQuery);
    while(resultset.next())
    {
        incr++;
    }
}
else
{
    insertStatus=saveIndexReturnStatus.executeUpdate(selectIndexReturnQuery);
    insertStatus=saveIndexReturnStatus.executeUpdate(saveIndexReturnQuery);
}
