web.xml namespace info how much imp ?

Hi Guys,
I found out that the following :

xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd"
version="2.4"

is a must to write in web.xml (doesnt provide any clue otherwise &
does'nt run my servlets).
Shouldnt the container(in my case tomcat)raise objections on using a descriptor w/o specific namespace ?

I'm not an expert in this department but I believe that the namespace informs the container as to which version of the servlet spec you're implementing.
I know, for example, that an app with a 2.3 namespace will run under the latest version of Tomcat but EL expressions will be ignored (printed verbatim).

No. It reads "how much imp"
