instead of http://IP:portno/Dir/servlet / how can i use"something.com"

hi all

Here in my web application each time after the deployment i have to type the "http://IP ortno/Dir/servlet/someServlet".instead of this is there any way to give a domain name as the substitute to this.(for my application i am using ecipse and tomacat server)

For this u need a virtual Directory in that put your application code.

also make entry in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.txt
eg.
ip addtess abcd.net

then hit abcd.net via IIS it get redirected to your application

If you want to publish your app (make it available on the internet), you'll need to register a domain name and either have the registrar point that domain to your IP or pay for commercial hosting if you don't have a static IP number.
