Jake the Snake has been murdered..., he probably deserved his fate, as he throughly disreputable character. The list of people who were happy to hear that he was at last out of their lives is long indeed. The number of actual suspect, though, has been narrowed to four who are themselves somewhat disreputable. One of them is guilty. Each makes two statements : which one killed Jake the Snake ?, EXPLAIN.....! A : 1. I did not do it. 2. I am surprised and offended that I am a suspect B : 1. D did it 2. C's second statement is false C : 1. I am innocent 2. B is guilty D : 1. I did not do it 2. C must have done it
clue : 5 statements are Not TRUE.

A did it.
If five statements are not true, then three of them are true. Upon examination, there exists a set of three statements of which at most one is false; this is the set {A1, C1, D1}. If we assume that all of these statements are true, then B is guilty. However, then there would be four true statements, because C2 would then have to be true. Therefore, B did not commit the murder, and one of {A1, C1, D1} is false and the other two are true. Therefore, one and only one of {A2, B1, B2, C2, D2} is true. From above, we know that C2 is False; therefore B2 is true and A2, B1, and D2 are false. Since B1 is False, D1 is True. Since D2 is False, C1 is True. Since D1 and C1 are both true, then A1 must be false. Therefore, A committed the murder. A: 1: FALSE 2: FALSE B: 1: FALSE 2: TRUE C: 1: TRUE 2: FALSE D: 1: TRUE 2: FALSE [This message has been edited by Joel McNary (edited November 13, 2001).]

I got the same answer: for the sake of comparison here are my arguments: Started with trial and error to see if I could eliminate some of the statement by assuming they are true: if B1 is true then B2, C1 and A1 all must also be true, so B1 is false. Because B1 is false D1 is true. Need to find 2 more true statements. If C2 is true then D1, A1, and C1 are all true too. So C2 is false, so B2 is true. Need to find one more true statement. Given D1 and B2 and !B1 and !C2 if D2 is true then A1 must be true so D2 is false and C1 is true. So D1, B2 and C1 are all true all others must be false so A1 is false and he is a liar and must be shot at dawn for the crime!! Dave

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
