Package symlinks in a WAR file?

Okay, so don't ask why (rolls eyes), but I need to deploy a WAR file, and have a symlink set up automatically in the webapps/myapplication directory under tomcat.

Right now, I can auto-deploy the WAR file, and if I create the symlink manually, everything works fine. But is there a way to create a symlink on my development machine, and have it installed into my app directory under tomcat when it explodes the WAR?
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
