we generally use the doGet() or the doPost(), then where the doPut() is applicable? and what is the advantage in using the doPut()?

Browsers generally don't use PUT (apart from JavaScript's XMLHttpRequest), but it's used in REST-style web services, as well as HTTP extensions like WebDAV.
It's worth noting that -although browsers are the most common clients of HTTP servers- HTTP is a generalized communication protocol, and other clients are possible.
