What are your thoughts out there on this...

Go to this article.. read the last part of it where it says...

Ross said Microsoft's decision not to include a Java Virtual Machine in its forthcoming Internet Explorer 6.0 Web browser--one of the terms of the settlement--spells trouble for anyone who believes in the "write once, run anywhere" potential of Java. A Java Virtual Machine is a software component that runs Java applications on different types of computers.

Is this true... Is microsoft thinking of not including the JVM in the upcoming Internet Explorer 6.0?

Depressing, but somehow I would not be suprised.
It's the MicroSoft way.

I have a feeling they'll give into what the user wants. If they take out Java in IE6.0, then the majority of users will switch to a browser that supports JAVA. If MS sees that they're losing a majority of the browser market because they don't support JAVA, then they'll change their ways. It's their modus operandi.

Quite True as what the current scenario goes.
But this may change, as there has been no Official word from Microsoft confirming this decision. They know that Netscape and Opera still exist.

What about the "one of the terms of the settlement" bit? Did Sun insist Microsoft remove its JVM (and if so, WHY??)
Are the settlement terms (or at least a summary) available anywhere online?

Go to your Control Panel, and find the Java-Plug-in 1.4.0 control, and double click it.
First, make sure you actually *have* this control panel. If you don't, you probably haven't installed it correctly. If it's there, go to the Browser tab and select the checkboxes for IE and Netscape.
Also make sure that on the Basic tab, you have the "Enable Java Plug-in" checkbox selected.
Hope this fixes it for you!

Hi,
I understand that it may be an inconvenience not to have a jvm already installed in IE. However, with the Java-plugin it's not that big a deal. Just provide a link for your users to install the plugin and tada! you have a jvm.

cheers,
Yoo-Jin
