Just out of interest are there any other Eddie Izzard fans out there? I have been a fan for years, went to see him in "A Day in the death of Joe Egg" in London the other week and that encouraged me to watch all of the videos I own of his stand-up show ... this guy never fails to make me double-up laughing .... not one other comedian out there that can do that!
It really annoys me that all people ever seem to talk about when they talk about Eddie is the fact that he is a Transvestite ... so what!! Millions of men are, they just havn't got the balls to tell people! The best thing about Eddie is his honesty, I think that's why he can be so funny!
Apparently it's his 40th Birthday tomorrow!! Wonder if he'll be still doing the show ... could go and give him a Birthday kiss ... do you dare me?
Oh and if you don't get the title of this thread, you need to watch some of his vids!

oh Cindy you don't know what you're missing!
I WAS GOING to supply you with an Amazon link to MY favourite video "Definate Article" .. however it seems it's not longer available in the states ... you'll probably get it on e-bay!
However, here's another really good vid of his stand-up show Glorious I insist you buy it and if you don't laugh I'll give you your money back!
Note - This offer only applies to Cindy!

I've seen a couple of small snippets from his performances, very amusing, though I've never seen a full show. Gotta love the nails

Oh I could post excerpts from his shows but they just wouldn't do the man justice, you have to see him perform it to really really laugh!!
I have a friend who like Jason has only bits an pieces of his act, he frightened to watch a whole show incase he explodes! Tis true!!
OK let me find a bit of his show that I like and then I'll post it!! if any of you are into slightly surreal comedy you'll love him!
... argh have to do it later .... mustn't be seen looking at sites with men in make-up on while at work!!

So if I buy this, do I have to hide it from the kids? I think that they can probably survive the cross-dressing thing. How about the content?

Well a fair amount of language in it ...not too much though I think ... he's not swearing every other word he just swears like most people do in general conversation ... oh he's not crass either ... just the f word occasionally and other words you'd find in your average movie these days!! If I were you I'd watch it first and decide for yourself. In the UK it's certified "15" (Suitable for anyone over 15) ... so up to you. Anyway he's not particularly cross-dressing in this one ... fantastic shiney trouser suit, heels and make-up including painted nails. He's lovely though. He basically just talks rubbish for two hours but you can't help finding him funny.
Anyway met him last night and gave him his birthday kiss and got him to sign my .... copy of the video I mentioned above! Sorry I know it's boring but he was in a hurry to get to his birthday party. The show was pretty funny though, I saw it before a few weeks ago and last night I think he may have had a few too many Birthday drinkies before the show because he just couldn't stop himself from falling apart laughing ... I got huge kick out of that! Tried to follow him after he left (well was going that way anyway, (honest guv ) just kept an eye on where he was) to see if I could gate-crash the party but lost him somewhere in Leicester Square (frighteningly busy place at 11:30 pm)!! Wouldn't have had the guts to do it anyway ... still in swoon land though ... and believe me there aren't many men who have that effect on me!

Oh Angela!! I forgot to tell you . I watched it last Wednesday - and YES it was VERY funny. It did have a scattering of F*** words and a few SOB sorts of things - but not too overwhelming. I just told the kids to bleep those out. Of course they just rolled their eyes and said perhaps I should listen to the conversation in the halls as school (sigh).
I let my kids watch it. The whole "Creation of the World" thing was funny - but the "Noahs Ark" was hilarious. My kids were talking about those "wicked giraffes" all weekend. The guy just blends from one topic to another seamlessly - he is really good.
I did have a bit of trouble following at the very beginning. Aside from adjusting to the accent (I figured that I might have a problem there) he also talks very fast sometimes. There were some references to personalities that I did not know, and I still don't get the thing about French Campsites . Something about how God created them on the 7th day - and he must have been in a hurry?
On the whole though - it was great! We are planning on sharing this tape with my Pastor - so I hope that he has a sense of humor  (he does - so I am not too worried ).
Thanks!

FAB .. I knew you wouldn't let me down. The man is just genius. Yes he does talk quickly, and his whole stream of consciousness style takes a bit of getting used to. Apparently he actually normally talks like that too... he says it's because he's dyslexic and it means he tends to think sideways .. whatever that means.
So go on .. admit it after 5 minutes you forgot he was wearing make-up right?
If you want more I think "Dress to Kill" is available over there .. it was filmed in San Francisco and he won two Emmys with it. It is often picked as the favourite show amongst his fans.
I hope your pastor enjoys it ... Eddie's take on religion is unique to say the least!

Actually I think I should take this opportunity to shamelessly plug my newest project www.eddie-izzard.com for those who might want to know more ... it's a brand new site, still needs lots of work but there's plenty to sink you teeth into.

Angela,
Am definitely an Eddie fan...watched the "Dress to Kill" HBO Special at least 20 times. I, too, double over when watching him, no matter how many times I watch. His facial expressions are hilarious! He is such an intelligent comedian with relatively accurate historical accounts. I was pleased to see that Eddie won an Emmy Award (Best Variety Special Performance) for the HBO show. I believe he was nominated for one or two others, including one dealing with "best script".
BTW, Eddie's own web site offers audio clips of his shows and links to purchase all of his videos...Eddie Izzard Homepage
P.S. I'm a good ole "country person" from Southeastern USA and could care less if Eddie is a [executive] transvestite, tomboy, tomgirl, or whatever...he's freakin' funny!!

Rhi, yay another fan out there ... i was beginning to feel alone.
SO glad you like him. I'm not a huge fan of his official website cos it's all flash and I HATE that ... so I'm putting together my own 56k modem friendly version with more stuff.

I agree...Flash is a waste of good (precious) bandwidth. I'm spoiled with my cable modem speeds...sorry to be so pretentious...
You go girl with your 56k-friendly site! I pulled out my tape of "Dress to Kill" and watched it today...just too funny!

Rhi,
Thank You. I'm always looking for contributors to my site so if you have any ideas. I'm moving it over to JSP soon onto a advert free host.
You're right, flash sites are great for those with nice broadband connections, which I have at work but funnily enough at work they're not too fond of me looking at websites about men in make-up.
I'm hopefully getting ADSL at home soon but i think that all sites should aim to be as 56k friendly as possible. Most people still use 56k modems afterall. Also I think although flash looks cool it seems to limit to capabilites of the site. The official site never used to be flash and it was great, I've actually written to Eddie's management and lodged my complaint about the new style. I'm all for new technologies but they need to be used appropriately.
Also official sites always seem to lack the content most fans require, so my site's going to have tonnes of stuff.
I'm hungry now, I think I'm going to pray to Jeff the God of Biscuits for some nice chocolate chip cookies.
