do you mean the microsoft CAN win the case or HAS winned the case?
if bill would win,how do you think of the prospective of java,i think it wouldn't affect the java a lot,except applet,because it need the client side support,but i don't think it is necessary,i even never use applet from beginning because of its performance problem-too slow to download,and most function of applet can be implemented by scriptlet,what's your opinion?

PS. Sun won - in a big way. That is why MicroSoft ended up "inventing" C# - which looks amazingly like java.

Sun was compansated about 14 million dollars after winning the case, AFAI remember...

This is a different case. Sun sued MS for violation of license because MS took Java (which Sun offers for free under GPL) and then made revisions to it and tried to SELL it and make a profit off it. Naughty Naughty!!
I believe that as part of the settlement MS is restricted from using Java in any form for about 5 years.
