Why does Java 1.4.2 ask to reboot Windows?

I just installed Java 1.4.2_01 onto Windows 2000. At the end of the install process, it asked me to reboot Windows. I've never seen this before with installing a JDK. I can't think of any reason Java should require a restart, however my Tomcat welcome page won't ever come up. I can't simply reboot the server, so I am wondering why Java would want me to in the first place and if that prompt is related to my current Tomcat woes.
Any pointers are appreciated.
This installation guide doesn't help nor does this search.

Can't tell you why, but frankly, in my experience it's a rare piece of Windows software that doesn't require a reboot after an install. I was just happy when the installer didn't force a reboot.
I saw a .signature once to the effect "Mouse motion detected. Reboot?"

Michael, from my experience, JRE never gets installed on Windows 2000 by default, not even after reboots or any other acts of obedience. What I normally do is from the Add/Remove programs click on the JDK icon and change it so as to install JRE and register the browser with it. Just a reminder, I believe you've done it anyway.
