Has anyone participated in local Java groups? Do you guys find it usefull? I went to my local event, we had sales guys from Compuware pitching their product for hour and a half. Is this just another channel for sales folks, or was I just unlucky to visit on a bad day?

For the first time, I went to the local java users group, in May. The speaker was "Martin Fowler". Add to joy of hearing Martin Fowler speak, I also won a door prize and got Java Developers Almanac. Not a wasted visit, I guess!
