I am eager to taste some delicious meals from the book... I can't find a single chapter from the book to taste...

Does anyone find one?

I guess, like last time for J2EE big picture, only the authoer got the sample chapter, and we might need to wait for the authoer.

Well, I didn't participate in that promotion... I'm wondering if the author have the right to publish some parts of the book without the publisher's permission... I'm not saying that the author of "J2EE big picture" book didn't ask for such permission...

Usually the author needs permission to publish some parts of the book to the public freely and commercially...

Well, let's wait for Mr.Herbert.. He might have one to share with us..

In fact, the sample chapter maybe created, and authorized to be posted, just dont know why the publisher has not put it into the Web.

I think it's because the book is thin and if the publisher provide one or two chapters as samples, people will get a lot from the samples.

I mean if the book got 10 chapters and the publisher provides 2 chapters, then 2/10 which is 1/5 part of the book become freely available to the public... Then people might not want to pay for the rest of 4/5 with the full price... but if the book is thick, the ratio of sample chapters to the rest of the book is relatively low...

Would it be one of the reasons why there is no sample chapter available from McGraw-Hill?

Nick, u see here in this thread, Mr.Herbert confirmed that he doesn't have the contractual authority to release one on his own...

So we'd better read the chapters on the real book...

McGraw-Hill/Osborn has released a sample chapter from the book. But it's chapter 1 and contains no real useful information. I guess you can get an idea of Herb's writing style.

I think, given the amount of activity in this forum this week, Herb has probably reproduced the majority of the book in his various posts!

But they all are not specific to a topic, corresponding to a chapter in the book... but if we can get a chapter or two, that would be a great opportunity for us to taste the flesh of Tiger...

But you are true that we get a lot from Mr.Herbert about the Tiger during this week...

Then Mr.Herbert book will let you know about Tiger in later weeks as well...

I think "Java 2: The Complete Reference" is also worth, compared to the price and number of pages... Since both of them are written by Mr.Herbert, the contents should not be that different, I guess...
