I think, because a man becomes a man (what a sexist language!) only after he learnt a need to sacrifice.

It came from a beautful poem. I guess it's trying to express how it feels to look at the world with childlike wonder, and the poet is expressing his approval.
I like this one better, though of course Wordworth's poem is more sublime.

Here father and man means parent and offspring ...
