Core Java 2, Volume I

I noticed that volume I is out but volume II has not been published yet. That seems odd to me. They seem like they would go together. Why the separate release dates?

Also, I saw volume I in the bookstore and it looks thinner than past versions. Is it fewer pages, or are you printing on different paper? I wonder if you gave any thought to combining volume I and volume II.

Thanks.

Hi! Volume 2 has been printed and is at the warehouse now. It will be in bookstores around November 26.

The paper has varied in thickness in the various editions. For greater shelf presence, some editions had very thick paper, and the bookstores loved that.

Readers didn't, and we went to thinner paper, a more compact design, and a very narrow code font. There is actually quite a bit more material in the new edition than in any preceding edition.

Unfortunately, combining two volumes isn't an option--the combined book would have almost 2,000 pages!

Cheers,

Cay

Just a small comment about the book packaging.

Would you consider publishing the book with 2 types of covers? Currently, it should be paperback, but personally, I love hard cover more.

I'd love hardcover too, and have had that discussion with the publisher several times. They won't do it. They claim that they did their research and that people simply won't pay the extra $5-$10 that it would cost (depending on the volume).

I'll bring up the issue again.

So, they can just perform a market seperation. Say, for each 1000 books, there are 10 books with hardcover and the rest is paper back. Thus, people who wanna buy hardcover has their offer. Just like what Sybex does.

I'll bring up the issue again.

Thanks, we are waiting for your good news.
